Rika is a happy, energetic girl in control of her life and her small flock of sheep. She’s been helping her father, Willem, run their farm and household, and has been campaigning to get a Border Collie pup. She wants to train the pup to bring in the dairy cattle and herd the sheep. But Rika’s orderly life unravels with the discovery of a deadly attack on her flock.
With the help of a young veterinarian and an eccentric protection dog breeder, Rika takes on more responsibilities. Then life becomes more complicated when her father develops a new relationship. As she struggles with the challenges of training a guardian pup, she makes a big mistake by exposing an older beloved dog to great danger.
An unexpected visit shakes up her world again and Rika begins to accept the changes she cannot control.
